Student Free Lunch & Breakfast

*Free Breakfast and Lunch at GRPS*
2019-2020 School Year

Gordon-Rushville Public Schools has received notice from the Nebraska Department of Education Office of Nutrition Services that beginning with the 2019-2020 school year Gordon-Rushville Public Schools qualifies for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), through the National School Lunch Program.  CEP allows schools that serve predominantly low-income children, to offer free, nutritious meals to all students through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. The CEP uses information from other programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Temporary Assistance Program for Needy Families (TANF) instead of traditional paper applications.

Schools meeting the following criteria, qualify for the program:

·  Identified student percentage of students who qualify as free or reduced is at least

   40%; OR

·  Identified student percentage greater than or equal to 30% but less than 40%; who

    qualify as free or reduced

The calculation used for the Identified Student Percentage (ISP) calculations are students identified on the Direct Certification List count as of April 1 from the Child Nutrition Program (CNP) system, divided by the Membership count from the last Friday in September.

What does this mean?

  • All Gordon-Rushville PK-12 students will be able to eat a breakfast and lunch free of charge each day.

  • The only cost will be if students take a 2nd entree or 2nd milk, those costs are not covered by the CEP

  • Seconds will be billed to the student. The cost for a second breakfast entree is $.70, a lunch entree is $1.50 and a second milk is $.55.  Students will only be allowed to accumulate a -$5.00 balance.  Students with balances greater than -$5.00 will not be allowed to charge for seconds until the negative balance is paid in full.

  • Students who have a pre-existing negative balance will need to make remittance for that amount before he/she will be allowed to charge seconds during the 2019-2020 school year.

  • Students with a positive balance may draw from that balance to pay for any seconds they purchase during the 2019-2020 school year. Parents/guardians may request to be reimbursed for the positive balance amount by contacting the Business Office. It is recommended that students maintain a positive balance if he/she is likely to purchase seconds.

  • Parents/Guardians will no longer have to fill out a Free and Reduced Lunch Application.

  • Adults will be charged the full rate of $1.90 for breakfast and $3.60 for lunch.

  • The District can choose to discontinue the program at any time and resume charging for breakfast and meals if finances dictate that is necessary.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Business Office at 282-1322 or the office at your student’s building.
